How To Sell Affiliate Products On My Website

There are many different ways to make money online but when you are just starting out it’s probably best to stick to something which is a tried and tested money maker such as affiliate marketing. It’s important though, to plan how you are actually going to execute your affiliate marketing business and many people have tried various strategies to sell affiliate products, often with hugely varying results.

When I talk to new internet marketers and rookie entrepreneurs, one of the first things they often say to me is “I want to know how to sell affiliate products on my website”. In this article I want to talk about the strategies I would advise you to follow if you want to make a good living from affiliate marketing.

Picking the Right Niche

This is the thing that people who fail at affiliate marketing often get wrong. It’s absolutely essential to pick the right niche for your affiliate marketing business. If you don’t you will just end up wasting a huge amount of time and effort and you will achieve virtually no sales and be left feeling disillusioned about your business.

To get the right niche for you, you need to consider two crucial factors. The first factor is that the niche you pick must be a profitable one. It must be something which has a considerable amount of potential buyers and lots of quality products which you can sell to these buyers.

The second factor is that the niche you pick must be something that you are actually interested in. If you pick a niche which you have no interest in then you can still make money but you will almost certainly run out of steam. You will find that your enthusiasm for your business drys up and you end up resenting your business as it holds no interest for you.

So lesson 1 to be learned in “How to sell affiliate products on my website” is – Pick the right niche!

The Top 5 Most Profitable Niches

Do you want to know what niche to go in to? Let me help you out here by sharing the top 5 most profitable niches you can go in to for affiliate marketing. These are the broad niche categories which I will then break down into some of the sub categories you can delve in to.

So in no particular order the top 5 profitable niches for you to consider are:

  • Money
  • Personal Development
  • Relationships
  • Healthy Living
  • Hobbies

Within each of these niches there are lots of great sub niches which can be very lucrative for an affiliate marketing business.

In the money niche you could consider topics such as making money. This includes things such as internet marketing / digital marketing, trading stocks and money markets, or gambling systems for making money by strategic betting. The money niche also includes financial topics such as saving and investing as well as buying and selling property (real estate).

The personal development niche is one of the biggest and also one of the most lucrative niches for you to consider. Within this broad niche there are all sorts of smaller niches such as stress management, confidence and self-esteem, life coaching, spirituality, self motivation, leadership skills, and career development

In the relationships niche you will find a range of topics to consider including dating, marriage, divorce, pregnancy, raising children, and lots of other family issues.

The healthy living niche contains one of the most profitable sub niches there is in affiliate marketing – namely weight loss. This is a rapidly growing niche (no pun intended) and has a huge amount of products as well as potential customers. Other niches within healthy living include pain management, healthy lifestyles, aging well, alternative remedies (acupuncture, herbal remedies etc) and management of chronic disease.

The hobbies niche has a vast array of hobbies and pastimes within it but if you decide to go in to one of these niches, be sure that its actually profitable. Some of the good hobby niches to consider include pets (people will spend lots of money caring for their four legged friends), fishing, fitness, yoga, martial arts and self-defence.

Finding Profitable Affiliate Products

Once you have decided which niche you are going in to then the next step is to find profitable affiliate products to sell to prospective buyers in your niche. Here’s some of the best ways to find such products:

  • Affiliate product platforms: Probably the most well-known affiliate product platform is Clickbank which has thousands of affiliate products listed which fall into just about every niche imaginable. If you want to find a suitable affiliate product to sell then I recommend using a tool called CBengine which allows you to search for products by keywords and order them according to various statistics. Gravity (which measures how well a products currently selling) is a good one to use and will show you quickly what products are selling well. Other platforms to consider would be JVZoo (which sells mainly money and personal development products) and Commission Junction . One word of caution – these platforms do contain lots of excellent affiliate products but also some absolute garbage so choose wisely
  • Internet Search. Another good way to find affiliate products to promote is by using a search engine such as google and search for “niche” affiliate program. For example if you were in the weight loss niche you could search for – weight loss affiliate program, or diet affiliate program. You will get a list of options that you can promote but be sure to do research on each product to make sure its of decent quality.

How To Sell Affiliate Products On My Website – The Key Factor

OK, so you have found an affiliate product that offers a good commission for you. It’s time to start promoting it – right?

Wrong!

Before you start selling or recommending any affiliate product it’s absolutely vital that you test it yourself to make sure it’s a quality product that does exactly what its supposed to do. The absolute worst thing you can do is recommend a poor product to your customers. Firstly you will end up getting lots of people asking for refunds and more importantly your reputation will be forever tarnished by your association with the product

There are 2 ways to check out the product. Either buy it yourself and thoroughly test it first (if it’s rubbish then just ask for a refund) or approach the product seller and mention that you are considering promoting their product to your customers and could you have a copy of the product first to test it and then show your customers exactly what they will be getting.

Never ever promote something that you don’t have personal experience of.

  1. I own a smallish blog on country running and I have been looking into monetising it properly with a affiliate product setup, thanks for laying out what I need to do in Layman’s Terms.

You have mentioned within your article that Healthy Living products are one of the most profitable options. What affiliate platform would you recommend for finding these items to promote?

    • Hi Chris. Thanks very much for your comments. You will find a number of affiliate programs for healthy living products on Clickbank but the affiliate platforms are more geared towards marketing and make money products. Personally I would search for “Healthy living products + affiliate program” on Google where you will find many more options

  2. Hello David, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. Those top 5 niches are truly one of the most profitable as I am already in the health niche. I see many people ask how can they succeed when there is so much competition and I like to say that competition equals more money. I like that you simplified things as people want to start an online business but there are so many disinformations on the Internet.

  3. This is a great article and I learned some things. First of all, my niche is coffee, but hopefully I can still make that work. Also, I have a question – you said never do a review for something I haven’t tried personally. But at the same time, we have to write lots of blogs posts, up to one per day, so it’s not realistic to always get and test products (unless we were doing this 8 hours a day with unlimited income to buy lots of products to try and compare). So I’ve allowed myself to do thorough internet research on some products. What do you think about that?

    • Hi Jerilyn. Thanks very much for your input. With regards to promoting products you haven’t tried I think it all comes down to how you personally feel about it. When I promote something I always make a point of telling a potential buyer about my own experience with the product. If you haven’t used the product then as long as you make it clear that your review is based on research then you can still be upfront about it
